A new YouGov poll has revealed that a massive 74% of Scots surveyed back the Scottish Government’s handling of the Coronavirus crisis. The same poll put the SNP on course for a massive landslide victory at the 2021 Holyrood elections.
Unbelievably, 70% of Labour, and even 70% of Tory voters in Scotland also back Nicola Sturgeon’s handling of the crisis.
However, only 47% of Scots felt that the UK Government is handling the crisis well. South of the border however, 59% of English people said Boris Johnson is doing a good job.
74% of Scots said that they think the Scottish Government is handling the crisis well, while 71% of Scots said they have confidence that Nicola Sturgeon is making the right decisions for Scotland as the crisis unfolds.
But the same cannot be said for Boris Johnson. Only 40% of Scots said that they felt Johnson was making the right decisions in relation to the outbreak.
At the Westminster elections, the SNP are on course to achieve 51% of the vote according to the poll, with the Tories on 25%, Labour on 15% and the Lib Dems on just 6%, and the Greens on 2%.
And for next year’s Holyrood 2021 elections, the SNP are on course to achieve a massive 54% of the constituency vote. The Tories are on 23%, Labour on 12%, the Lib Dems on 8% and the Greens on 2%.
The SNP’s vote share would increase by 8% if the polling is accurate, for both the constituency and the regional vote.
This would mean that the SNP would pick up 68 seats, which would be an increase of 5 seats from the last Holyrood election. The Greens would be expected to pick up an extra 4 seats with this result, which would mean a pro independence majority of 78 out of 129 MSPs. There are currently 69 MSPs from pro independence parties in Edinburgh.
SNP MP Pete Wishart said of the poll “Simply astonishing. And we’re on 54% for Holyrood. Often see people on here saying we’re finished or they’re leaving the party. The Scottish people seem to like what we’re doing.”
